06/04/2017 - HS SOFTBALL - Washington vs Lady Hounds

The FM Bloodhound varsity girl's softball team lost a pair of Southeast Conference games to Washington Friday at Bill Hoskins Field.

The Lady Hounds lost the opener to the Demons 9-8. They scored five runs in the bottom of the third but Washington answered with five of their own in the top of the fourth.

The Lady Hounds responded with two in the fourth, but the Demons scored a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to claim the victory.

In the big third inning, Chayse Lowney hit a home run to bring in Teryn Parsons, who had singled. Then Lexi Schmidt and Olivia Williams each singled, and Kamryn Bailey socked a home run to score the other three runs.

In the fourth, Schmidt hit a two-run home run, bringing in Sadie Smithburg.

Smithburg singled home Parsons for the final run in the sixth.

Vanessa Golowach added a pinch hit single.

Schmidt took the loss. Six of the nine runs were earned. She struck out three and walked two and gave up 11 hits.

Washington beat FMHS 10-6 in the second game. FMHS led 3-2 after the first and both teams scored three in the sixth. But the Demons had a five-run fifth that proved to be the difference.

Lowney took the loss, striking out five and walking six and giving up 14 hits. Schmidt pitched the final 1 2/3 in relief.

Smithburg hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Dalyn Wondra and Schmidt each had two hits and two RBIs, with Schmidt getting a triple for one of the hits.

Bailey went 2-for-4, and Lowney, Williams and Golowach had the other hits.



The Lady Hounds opened the season by splitting with West Burlington, losing the first game 12-5 but winning the second 8-5 in 11 innings.

Schmidt took the loss. She and Lowney each doubled and singled in four at-bats. Bailey was 2-for-4, and Smithburg, Williams and Wondra added base hits.

The ladies tied the second game with a run in the top of the seventh and both teams were held scoreless the next three extra innings.

Lowney went the distance, striking out eight and walking just one.

Williams went 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles for the Hounds. Schmidt hit a  pair of doubles. Bailey and Golowach had two hits each, and Lowney, Smithburg, Parsons, Jada Lamm and Wondra all had base hits.

Bailey drove in three runs, Williams two and Parsons, Golowach and Wondra one each.
